Reflexology
Reflexology is an amazing and interesting form of foot therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. It involves applying finger or thumb pressure by the therapist, to specific points on the feet. These areas we call ‘reflexes’ reflect or mirror, the organs and structures of the body as well as a person’s emotional health. In this way the feet are a ‘mini map’ of the body that can be used to encourage holistic healing.
Feet truly are a mirror of our body and current health.
Within the past history of Reflexology, the Chinese have likely been the most instrumental in how Reflexology has adapted today. We know a lot about the physiology of the human systems and now we are gaining an understanding of energy flow and how it affects us physically and mentally.
The Chinese describe these as Meridians. These Meridians are simply channels of energy, our life force if you like, circulating within perpetrating a healthy body and mind continously.
Reflexology has the ability to work with this energy system, changing the flow, opening it up where congested, promoting positive change for health and to create a balance and energy.
This therapy supports and works with the whole body, assessing areas to help promote positive change. Just as an example, working the kidney reflex on the foot, will therefore revitalise and balance the entire zone and improve organ functioning. Addressing the stress receptors within us goes a long way to balancing our health, turning the fight flight response into one of rest, repair and heal. Given our busy lives this creates many positives benefits.
Modern reflexology has gone much further with treatment, it is both a science and an art. Understanding and knowledge of our health in recent years, has influenced many holistic treatments, and Reflexology has gained huge knowledge in these fields.
